Smith Rock State Park

Deer

This is a buzzard and the side view of Monkey Face

Monky Face from behind

This contraption would not be a good way to come down the mountain

Majestic spires towered over the Crooked River at this 623 acre state park. The park is named for a soldier who fell off the highest peak (3,230 feet). Although it is known for its rock climbing, many visitors come for the hiking and picture taking-the views are fantabulous-and I'm so glad I didn't forget my camera on this special hike. It was hard work for me to get up the trail, some of it seemed straight up! But the views were so worth it. We saw buzzards, deer, horses, ponds, estates, the meandering Crooked River, and got to watch rock climbers all on the same hike. We stopped on the trail for a picnic and could see all the way to the Cascade Mountain Range.
