Judd Memorial Trail and Jackass Ginger Pool, Dole Plantation, 1845 Summer Palace

We made it to the Jackass Ginger Pool, royalty used to slide down the sides of this pool in the mud and go swimming. We got off track on the way back
and found some Hawaiin ruins, well, we weren't the original discoverers, but it wasn't in the hike book or Moon's Guide, so we felt like we just stumbled accross it in the jungle, but lo' and behold-there was another trail leading away from it and more tourists on that trail. How did theh know about it? Actually, on an earlier hike to this area another hiker told us about this area, but it is a restricted area-whateva'! It was a summer palace built in 1845 for King Kamehameha III. Next we went to Jack in the Box in Waimanalo and hung out on the beach.

I accidently added pics from the Dole Pineapple Farm, we went there a different day and ate pineapple soft ice cream waffles cones. Yes, I've gained 10 pounds on this trip!

Puuo Mahuka Heiau Ancient Polynesian Temple

After our hike up the Kuanala Loop, we went to this ancient Polynesian temple where they actually had human sacrifices. Local Hawaiins still leave sacrifices of leis, trinkets, fruit, water, etc. at a tree near the top of the temple. On the way home we went by a beach with a monk seal on it and the traffic was totally backed up to see and take pictures! We stopeed at Cholo's Mexican Restaurant in Haleiwa and had some delicious Mexican food. Almost as good as Macayo's.

Easter Picnic Hike Kuanala Trail

Don't you just love our cute little 2 door red rental car? We had it for 2 of the 3 months we were here in Hawaii.
It was a little bit muddy and rained off and on during this hike-it was super fun.
Waimea Bay
Ka'ala Mountain

This is volcanic ash soil-red just like Valley of Fire

We were so sad not to be home for Easter and the Annual Valley of Fire Easter Egg Hunt. Hope you all had a fun time, we missed you all. These are some pictures from our Easter weekend. We took a hike on the North Shore. The views of Waimea Bay were lovely and we were able to see the highest mountain on O'ahu-Mount Ka'ala.
